Nine candidates are elected to the Boston City Council.

They are Lawrence DiCara, Christopher Iannella, John Kerrigan, Patrick McDonough, Gerald O’Leary Jr., Albert “Dapper” O’Neil, Gabriel Piemonte, Joseph Tierney, Joseph Moakley. Moakley is the top vote getter with 93,484. DiCara, 22, becomes the youngest person elected to city-wide office in Boston. Former School Committee member John Craven Jr. fails in his attempt to “move up” to the City Council. Moakley resigns and is replaced by Frederick Langone on January 4, 1973.
